With unparalleled airport knowledge and strategic access, Maz Group has delivered both major and minor contracts airside and landside at Melbourne Airport. With over a decade of experience, we place great emphasis on achieving the best outcomes for all projects with a focus on delivering on time and on budget. Below we have rounded up our Melbourne Airport construction projects:
Terminal 3 E4 Amenities Refurbishment
As the leading commercial builders Melbourne wide, we were engaged to update and upgrade the amenities facility for T3 passengers. The objective was to create a more contemporary, luxurious airport experience by building on the vacated space, installing new infrastructure such as ventilation, specialised lighting, joinery and detailed ceilings as well as building an assisted change room, gender neutral toilet and expanded female and male capacity. Additionally, we upgraded the fire protection of the facility.
Establishing a safe working environment was crucial to the success of this project, while avoiding disruption to live environments in other parts of the airport was of equal importance.
Considering the quality of the build throughout each stage of this project was vital and to achieve this, we remained in close consultation with the architects and consultants throughout.
Melbourne Airport – STCP, Terminal 2 & Satellite Cladding Replacement Project
This large-scale project required our team to provide the client with site investigations, detailed designs, documentation and delivery of recladding works. As part of the project, we were tasked with identifying, removing and replacing all existing non-compliant cladding, subframing and packaging. In addition, we created temporary diversions or alterations for existing electrical, hydraulic, EWIS and CCTV services.
To expediate the turnaround of our panel manufacturing, we established an onsite fabrication facility and adjusted key construction methodology to allow this project to continue in conjunction with other projects at Melbourne Airport.
Melbourne Airport CT Implementation Stage 1 & 2
Our CT Implementation project involved completing works in Terminal 4 passenger screening to install two new iLanes and CT Machines to Lanes 1 and 6 and two Rapiscan Body Scanners as well as works in Terminal 2 international passenger screening to install seven Smith Detection CT Machines, nine Vanderlande decision belts and lane reconfiguration. This involved coordination with Smiths Detection and Rapiscan onsite as well as installation of power and data supplies.
A project of such scope required us to implement strategies to avoid disruption to other airport activities. Meticulous planning was required to coordinate our operations around those of Melbourne Airport.
Jetstar Hangar 101 Refurbishment
Our refurbishment of Jetstar’s Aircraft Heavy Maintenance Facility included new engineers’ offices, tool store, breakout space, amenities and aircraft hangar works. With unexpected site conditions to consider, safety measures were meticulously carried out and consideration was given to the cost efficiency of the project throughout.
Through careful planning and the engagement of a subcontractor, our expert team of commercial builders in Melbourne delivered the project a month earlier than the estimated date of delivery, exceeding client expectations.
Flight Information Display Screen T4 Project
Installing a new FID screen and structural frame in a live environment where electrical and data communications required onsite testing and commissioning required meticulous planning and safety protocols to be in place.
Originally, we were engaged solely to manage the installation of the new screen, however upon discovery that the frame design was not suitable, we worked closely with the structural engineer to develop solutions for a redesign. Additionally, we sourced a new manufacturer for the build.
With a commitment to innovation, we were able to deliver this project on a tight schedule. With extensive project management experience, the Maz Group team effectively negotiated permission to work through airport embargos to safely deliver the works above the heavily trafficked airport precinct while ensuring traveller experiences were not compromised.
Melbourne Airport Perimeter Fence Project
The perimeter fence line around Melbourne Airport airfield is essential to ensure safe and secure operations. The perimeter fence project involved designing and constructing 7km of existing fencing with a higher security alternative and added vehicle mitigation measures in designated high risk areas.
As part of this project, Maz Group was engaged to install compliant temporary fencing while demolishing the existing fence. Environmental management was also a crucial component of this project, including PFAS handling, relocation and management.
