Jetstar Hangar 101 Refurbishment, Melbourne Airport

MAZ Group successfully completed a refurbishment of Jetstar’s aircraft Heavy Maintenance Facility including new engineers’ offices, tool store, breakout spaces, amenities and aircraft hangar works. The scope of works included:

  • Hangar floor grinding and reapplication of epoxy floor coating
  • Demolition and hazmat removal
  • Services upgrades including new mechanical units and ductwork, hydraulics, lighting, power and smoke detectors
  • New amenities
  • Floor finishes including tiling, vinyl and carpet
  • Two new kitchens with associated joinery and white goods
  • New suspended ceiling and demountable partitions

The Challenges

Throughout the project, our team needed to avoid disrupting any live working environments around other areas of the airport, in particular any hangar operations, and uphold the highest safety measures possible. MAZ also had to consider cost efficiency of the project and be mindful of unexpected site conditions.

Our Solutions

The team undertook extensive cost planning and value management assistance to ensure the project remained cost efficient for the client. In particular, the floor grinding program and methodology was adapted to limit the frequency of cannon isolations and to de-risk concurrent hangar operations. MAZ also developed design solutions to accommodate any unexpected site conditions.

Our Key Outcomes

Through heavy subcontractor engagement and meticulous planning, the project was delivered a month ahead of programme and to the highest standard. MAZ Group maintained excellent client relations with open and transparent consultation as to minimise on Jetstar’s ongoing maintenance operations. Our constant quality management checks throughout the lift of the project ensured minimal defects.
