Terminal 4 Flight Information Display Screen Project, Melbourne Airport
MAZ Group project managed the installation of a new Flight Information Display (FID) screen and structural frame within Terminal 4 at Melbourne Airport.
The Challenge
There were a number of factors to be considered throughout the undertaking of this project, including the fact that it required live environment delivery, and the electrical and data communications required onsite testing and commissioning.
Our Solution
MAZ Group was engaged to manage installation, however, the frame design was not suitable for end purpose.
MAZ worked with the structural engineer to develop buildability solutions in its redesign and source a manufacturer for the new frame. The frame was then subsequently manufactured and spray painted in-house, utilising ovens at night to speed up the drying process.
MAZ also created hoarded lay down zones for materials delivery from our in-house storage area during the day to be installed as part of the night works.
Our Key Outcomes
MAZ Group achieved a range of key outcomes for this project.
- We were instrumental in ensuring delivery of the project within a short timeframe, through our innovative approach to solution development which helped to accelerate the program effectively.
- The team programmed all airside works to be delivered at low peak traveller times, from 11pm to 4am
- MAZ effectively negotiated permission to work through airport embargos
- Safely delivered the works above the heavily trafficked airport precinct so that traveller experiences were unimpeded
- Stored and delivered materials airside at Terminal 3 loading bay during downtime periods
- Ensured that all equipment arriving onsite was scanned for sterile entry.
